Existential Therapy in Austin
What does it mean to live a life that actually feels like your own?
Existential therapy creates space for the questions that don't always fit neatly into a diagnosis: Who am I? What matters to me? How do I want to live? What do I do with uncertainty, freedom, responsibility, loss, and change?
You may be navigating a transition, questioning choices you've made, feeling disconnected from a life that looks fine on paper, or trying to understand what makes your life feel genuinely meaningful and alive.

When the life you're living no longer feels like your own...
Sometimes nothing is obviously wrong, and yet something feels off.
Maybe you've built a life that makes sense on paper but find yourself wondering whether you actually chose it. You may be facing a career change, the end of a relationship, a move, a loss, or another transition that has disrupted the story you thought your life would follow.
Or perhaps there hasn't been one dramatic event at all. You simply find yourself asking questions that are difficult to ignore: Who am I now? What actually matters to me? Is this how I want to spend my life?
Existential therapy doesn't treat these questions as problems to eliminate. It creates space to explore uncertainty, identity, freedom, responsibility, relationships, values, loss, and meaning—and to become more intentional about the life you're creating.
You don't need to be in crisis to want a deeper relationship with your own life.
Four questions at the heart of existential life
Existential Analysis explores some of the fundamental conditions that help us experience life as something we can genuinely say yes to. These ideas can be understood through four deceptively simple questions:
01 — CAN I BE HERE?
Safety + Reality + Uncertainty
Can I meet life as it actually is, even when I can't control what happens next? This can involve safety, stability, anxiety, uncertainty, loss, and developing enough ground beneath you to face reality rather than constantly fighting or avoiding it.
03 — AM I ALLOWED TO BE MYSELF?
Identity + Authenticity + Self-Worth
Who are you beneath expectations, roles, and the versions of yourself you've learned to perform? This question opens into identity, boundaries, self-worth, belonging, authenticity, and the freedom to become more fully yourself.
02 — DO I LIKE BEING ALIVE?
Connection + Emotion + Value
What allows life to feel worth experiencing? Here we might explore relationships, grief, pleasure, emotional connection, loneliness, and your capacity to feel close to people, experiences, and things you genuinely value.
04 — WHAT IS WORTH LIVING FOR?
Meaning + Direction + Responsibility
What calls you forward? Meaning isn't necessarily something we discover once and keep forever. It can emerge through relationships, work, creativity, contribution, values, and how we choose to respond to the circumstances of our lives.
Existential therapy might be for you if...
EXISTENTIAL THERAPY
AUSTIN + ONLINE THERAPY ACROSS TEXAS
You don't necessarily have a specific symptom you want to “fix.” You may simply know that something about the way you're living no longer feels right.
Maybe you're at a crossroads in your career or relationship. You're starting over after a divorce, move, or loss. You've reached midlife and are questioning choices that once made perfect sense. Or you've accomplished what you thought you wanted and are surprised to find yourself asking, “Is this it?”
You might be wrestling with belonging, loneliness, commitment, freedom, aging, mortality, or a decision that doesn't seem to have one objectively correct answer.
Sometimes the work is less about finding a solution and more about becoming clear enough about who you are, what matters to you, and what you're willing to choose.
Who I especially enjoy working with
You might recognize yourself here if you are:
01 — CREATIVES + UNCONVENTIONAL THINKERS
People building lives outside traditional templates, including artists, photographers, writers, entrepreneurs, and others trying to balance creativity, livelihood, identity, and the desire to live on their own terms.
02 — ADULTS IN TRANSITION
People navigating career changes, divorce, relocation, midlife, grief, identity shifts, or the strange in-between period when an old version of life no longer fits but the next one hasn't fully emerged.
03 — EXPATS + THIRD-CULTURE ADULTS
People whose lives span cultures, countries, or communities and who are exploring questions of belonging, identity, home, relationships, and what it means to create a life when there isn't one obvious place you fit.
04 — SEEKERS + DEEP THINKERS
People who are curious about themselves and willing to ask bigger questions—not only “How do I feel better?” but “How do I want to live?” You may be drawn to psychology, philosophy, spirituality, meditation, personal growth, or simply understanding yourself more deeply.
My approach to existential therapy
Existential therapy is central to how I think about the therapeutic process. I'm interested not only in what you're struggling with, but in how you experience yourself, your relationships, your choices, and the life you're creating.
Beginning in March 2027, I will undertake a three-year postgraduate training in Existential Analysis & Logotherapy through the Center for Existential Analysis & Logotherapy (CEAL), deepening my study of this approach and its phenomenological foundations.
My work is also informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, and experiential approaches, allowing us to explore both the larger questions of your life and the different parts of you that may have competing needs, fears, and desires.
Questions about Existential Therapy
-
Existential therapy is an approach that explores how you relate to some of life's fundamental questions: identity, meaning, freedom, responsibility, relationships, uncertainty, loss, and choice. Rather than focusing only on reducing symptoms, existential therapy can help you understand yourself more deeply and consider how you want to live.
-
People may seek existential therapy during life transitions, career changes, relationship difficulties, grief, identity questions, midlife, loneliness, anxiety, or periods of feeling stuck or unfulfilled. You don't need to be in crisis. Sometimes therapy begins simply because the life you're living no longer feels entirely like your own.
-
Existential therapy is less about following a prescribed set of techniques and more about exploring your lived experience with curiosity and depth. We may look at patterns and symptoms, but we'll also consider the larger questions underneath them: what matters to you, what you're choosing, what you can't control, and what it might mean to live more authentically.
-
It can be. For some neurodivergent adults, therapy isn't only about becoming more organized or productive. Existential work can create space to explore identity, self-acceptance, expectations, relationships, values, and what it means to build a life around the way you actually function rather than constantly trying to fit yourself into someone else's template.
